It is week 2 of the Jpeg journals, my new photo project documenting my weekend walks, shooting jpegs only, not only with the newly acquired Fujifilm X-Half but also my collection of retro digicams.
Sunrise was just after 5am this morning, I was out a little later , just after five thirty, to a morning of overcast skies and very welcome cooler temperatures.
I enjoy getting out early on a Saturday morning, there is a wonderful sense of tranquillity before the city awakens from its metaphorical slumber.
I have had Fujifim cameras in the past, where I leaned very much towards shooting in colour, it is fair to say that I had not yet began my appreciation of monochrome photography, using it only as a poor attempt to rescue a poor shot.
I have learned much since then, especially in the last twelve to eighteen months.
Since owning the X-half, ninety per cent of my images have been in the acros film simulation, just to see what I can get out of it in varied light.
For all the suggestions about the film mode being a gimmick, it is actually a feature that I am using more than I thought I would, for the most part because I am liking having to wait to see what I have shot, instead of the instant gratification of the screen.
There have been a number of unusable shots admittedly but I see this as part of the enjoyment of photography, it reminds me of my early days of film photography, sorting the good from the bad after waiting two weeks to get a film back from the likes of truprint!
One thing I have noticed with shooting Jpeg, is that I have started to give the shot more consideration, a discipline that is easy to forget as modern cameras and sensors become more forgiving.
Perhaps it is this getting back to basics ethos that make me look forward to each outing more and more.
I really enjoyed this set, especially the shot of the church through the trees. Very lovely!
