Most of my posts here on substack reflect my enjoyment of owning and shooting with older cameras, especially digicams.
I disembarked from the new camera / latest tech merry go round firstly for financial reasons, new technology that I would rarely if ever use costs a lot of money and secondly, I was not that excited about all the latest offerings… until this week.
The announcement of the latest Fujifilm, the ‘X-half’ caused a ripple or two of interest in the curiosity department, given that its feature set sits very nicely with my current photography mindset.
It shoots JPEG only but has a choice of 13 of Fujifilm’s renowned film simulation but for me more interestingly, there is a ‘film camera mode’ that would allow me a film camera style experience but without the cost.
In this mode, a film simulation is chosen from the menu, along with a 36, 54 or 72 exposure setting.
Images are composed via the optical viewfinder only and the back screen will not allow preview of images until ‘film roll’ is used.
Having recently experimented with JPEG only shooting, this sounds like a whole lot of fun that offers so many creative opportunities.
With a one inch sensor and a 32mm (Full frame equivalent) fixed lens it ticks the boxes in terms of compact size and weight.
For some time now, I have been considering another long term project, this purchase would be perfect for a ‘one camera, one lens’ theme.
I have watched a number of reviews over the last couple of days and my pre order request has been submitted at my local camera store.
I have to be a little patient and wait until around mid June for stock to arrive but I also have a few days holiday to enjoy before then.
In the meantime, a few images taken in Exeter with my trusty Lumix LX7

I too was intrigued by it. It certainly seems like a spot of fun, and I can't fault the company for trying to bring out a niche product that moves the market in a unique direction. Will be interested to hear about what its like from somewhere other than a YT video. Cheers~
