During my working week, I start around 4am, working for a local food wholesaler, where my view of the outside world is limited to when the warehouse shutters are opened for loading delivery vans, or to receive goods in.
During these brief glimpses of the new day, I look forward to my early Saturday mornings, where I can indulge my appetite for some shutter therapy and capture these all too brief sunrise light shows.
As I wander through the city centre, the last few students are meandering their way back home after their night out, most in a jovial mood, others may just have a rather sore head for the best part of their Saturday.
Gulls hang around litter bins, pecking optimistically at takeaway boxes with a look and attitude of an angry adolescent as it finally realises the box is bereft of anything worth eating.
My train journey will be just fifteen minutes duration, heading to Starcross, where I will pick up the footpath that heads back along the Exe estuary.
My first shots today are taken on the station platform, the fencing offering a pleasant contrast to the already emerging sunrise.
In the last few weeks I have been considering a purge of some of my lesser used compact cameras, one of which is the Canon Powershot G11, which I have decided to shoot with today but there will be a good chance that I will remember what I like about this camera and end up keeping it after all.
The momentary show of pastel hues are soon gone, so I make my way the six or so miles back on one of my favourite walks.
While the sunrise palette may have dissipated, there is still a subdued light as a layer of cloud envelops the sky above and a cool breeze makes for a very pleasant walk.
These are just a handful of todays images, there will be more to come and it looks like the G11 will be staying for a while longer yet!
Excellent morning stroll produced some beautiful images. I like the square format, do you choose to make the crop afterwards or set the image ration to 1:1 in the camera? Not even sure this camera has the option but in general.
